7:30 a.m.: A ballot cast and a breakfast eaten

So, we’re back from voting. I was surprised at the number of people at our polling place this morning, even though I knew turnout was going to be heavy. Our precinct is usually pretty quiet at 6:30 in the morning, but today I would bet that there were as many as a hundred and fifty people there. There were lots of younger people too, maybe ten percent of the people there, which is high for our otherwise older precinct.

Overall, people were in a good mood. One gentleman said he came to vote because “once I push that button, it stops the commercials.” Other people were chatting amiably about the process, although I noticed everyone studiously avoided talking about who they were going to vote for.

One thing several people said that I agree with is that this is going to be a late night. I think the popular vote is going to be far closer than the polls from yesterday indicated, and I think there could be more than one state where the vote is within recount margin. Of course, we will not know any of that until later tonight, but that’s my prediction right now.

Here in Clark County we vote at the Hustead Fire Department. This is a very rural area. I was surprised that at 6:45 a.m. the line was out the door and into the parking lot. I waited 1 hour 15 minutes. Now we wait and pray.

Wow, an hour fifteen is an impressive wait.
