20060911 Bible Study for the Day: Psalm 55

Psalm 55

Psalm 55 is a prayer against the enemies of the writer, King David of Israel. In a way, this psalm is a complaint, an indictment against someone who seems to have deeply wronged David by treachery. In life, many of us have felt the sting of a similar complaint, believing that someone has betrayed us in some irrevocable way. In our hears, we cry out at such injustice, wanting relief from what has been done to us.

What we often forget is that God has already relieved us from that injustice through the miracle of our faith. It does not matter what happens to us in our lives here on earth so long as we concentrate ourselves on God’s Will for us and our goal of Heaven. In that realization, we can set aside the frustrations of life, even the deep pain of betrayal, because we know that God will not abandon us even in our darkest hours.
