20060926 Bible Study for the Day- 1 Kings 3-4

1 Kings 3-4

Solomon’s wisdom was renowned in all the world- even to this day-, but it was wisdom that came from God and not from Solomon’s own mind, a gift from God for Solomon’s faithfulness to God’s will. Solomon’s wisdom is an example of the application of seeking first God’s kingdom and righteousness. When God asked Solomon what he desired, Solomon answered by seeking God’s will through the wisdom to govern, not for personal gain.

The point of this lesson is that God blesses us when we pursue His will. This blessing is not a reward because it is not our actions that save us; rather it is a means by which God strengthens our faith and our commitment to pursuing His will so that we can work that much more toward furthering His kingdom. God’s blessing is for His purpose and our benefit, both of which lead to the Kingdom of Heaven.
