    The World Watch Preview is a post that takes a look at news items that are currently making their way through the never ending 24-hour news cycle. The Preview calls attention to and provides a quick commentary on some of those events. Irony Is Everything
    Several weeks ago, I posted a blog arguing that the student protests in France represented the future of the Western world as it slides further and further toward a Liberal Leftist reality. Ironically, May 1st was chosen by hundreds of thousands of Hispanic- primarily Mexican and illegal- immigrants as the day to protest a growing sentiment among Americans to enforce the sovereignty of their own country.
    How are student protests and illegal immigrant protests linked? Because they are both populist uprisings against the greater good of the countries in which they occur. In France, this uprising resulted in the abandonment of the first true labor reform in decades, designed to help the very people protesting against that reform. In the US, the illegal immigrant protests are likely to force the passage of laws that will ultimately neither solve immigration problems nor increase immigration benefits.
    The illegal immigrant protests of May 1st represent protests to maintain an untenable status quo. They create and environment where reactionary and likely useless policy will be enacted, further exacerbating the already untenable problem. As a result, the end result of these protests will not be a better environment for both the immigrants and citizens of the US, but more and greater tension that can come to no good.
    Ultimately, these protests, whether now or later, will lead to a radical change in US immigration policy and border control. These eventual policies will not be for the better, instead they will be a reaction that itself does not take into account the actual problem of future consequences, and the result of that reality will be the renewal of the very process that led to such reactionary and bad decisions to begin with.
    The only way to stop such a cycle is for thinking and compassionate Americans to stop reacting, to think, and to act with America’s strong present and future in mind. The solution to the illegal immigration problem is reachable, but it requires a will and a fortitude that the US has yet to show. Failure to show such a will carries with it consequences that will reverberate for a long time.
For Once, a Mainstream Media Article I Agree With
    In case you have not yet heard, the latest cut-and-run strategy presented by the defense-challenged Liberal Left via its mouthpiece Joseph Biden is to divide Iraq into ‘ethnic’ areas of control, thereby allowing the US to abdicate its commitment to completing what it started in Iraq and leaving the mess to the Iraqis, and likely the Iranians and Syrians, to clean up.
    Fortunately, even the MSM is not buying in. the linked ABC News article reports an empirical analysis on why such a plan is fatally flawed, and with this analysis I essentially agree. The article is short on one factor, however, and that is the observation that choosing to divide another sovereign nation for our own benefit is immoral.
    Consider that it is the same Liberal Leftists who complain that the invasion of Iraq to begin with was immoral and unjust. They claim that our current effort to stabilize Iraq while it forms a government is the same. Yet, these same people now claim that the best exit strategy we can hope for is creating a civil war by arbitrarily dividing Iraq along lines we see fit and then running without really giving the Iraqis a say in the matter? Are not these the same Liberal Leftists that claim the current administration is dictatorial?
    It is clearly doubtful that such a plan will ever be put into action, but the fact that such a plan was even voiced is a clear reflection of what the Liberal Left really stands for. If anyone can figure out what that is, do everyone else a favor and tell everyone what that is.
And, By the Way, Iran Is Still Trying to Build Nukes
    Some likely consider this a tired subject on this weblog, but like it or not, Iran is still trying to build nuclear weapons. And, it does so while the agonizingly slow dance of international diplomacy plays on.
    Tired though the subject may be, this is a drumbeat that must be continued until the US does something definitive about the problem. This solution does not have to be force, though it will likely end up being force, but whatever the solution is, Iran cannot be allowed to build nuclear weapons.
