Deuteronomy 16-17

The feasts of the Old Testament were a foretaste of the future for the Israelites who waited in hope for the coming Kingdom of God. In fact, those feasts foreshadow even for us as Christians the feasts of Heaven that we work toward through our faith.

Such celebrations remind us of the fact that we are headed to a better place. When we celebrate, for a time we are happy, and for a time the troubles of this world seem distant. At that distance, the promise of Heaven becomes more real.

Yet, with out earthly celebrations, the reality of our sinful world always comes back. That is why we hope for the permanent celebration of Heaven, for it is there that the troubles of this world will cease to be.
