Deuteronomy 18-19

Deuteronomy 18:15-16 is not just a promise of the prophets that Israel was to later see, it was also a prophecy of the coming of the Christ. The truth of Moses teaching, by the divine inspiration of the Holy Spirit, is that the law of the land of Israel was God’s Word, and that Word would be spoken to the people by prophetic vision through His chosen men who were the forerunners of the Word to come.

When the Word became flesh, the age of that prophetic vision ended, for with Jesus the Word spoken through the prophets now walked among men. Jesus came to fulfill everything those prophets had foretold, to deliver us from the condemnation of the law through His perfect life, His bitter death, and His glorious resurrection.

Now, we Christians look back on that age and see the Word revealed for what it is, that is the means by which we receive faith in Jesus Christ as our Savior. Just as Moses warned the Israelites to listen to God’s prophets, so we are warned to listen to God’s word given to us by those prophets and the evangelists who followed them.
