The curses and blessings of the Old Testament often leave us a little bit unsure. Such language and the ideas that go behind it are not what we are used to in our modern age of ambiguousness, but the truth is that the essence of those blessings and curses hold true even today.
To be sure, those who live apart from God’s grace are still cursed. Without a saving faith in Jesus Christ as his lord and savior, there is not a single person, no matter how good or righteous he might seem, who will reach Heaven. The curse of sin is real, and its condemnation is eternal.
Just as surely, the Grace of God through Jesus Christ our Savior is a sure blessing. Through that blessing, we are freed from the curse of sin and blessed with the promise of eternal life with God in heaven. The blessing of God is real, and its gift is eternal.
So, the blessings and curses of the Old Testament are a reflection of the very same in our modern lives. Whatever their time, before or after the promises of God’s salvation were fulfilled, they represent the will of the same source, our eternal God in Heaven.
