Kelly’s Blog: Interesting thoughts on patriotism and being a Christian

Perhaps it is because I am a veteran, but I disagree with the basic point made in this post. I completely agree that attendance at church on a given Sunday is always about worshiping the risen and glorified Christ, but remembering the accomplishments of His sanctified children cannot be out of place.

I may be wrong here, and this is definitely something that requires more thought, but honoring and remembering those who helped secure the blessings of liberty that we enjoy, by which we have the right to even write such things, is also thanking God for His bounty showered upon us, when done properly.

If you click on the main link I provided, you’ll see that the primary post I was linking to was written by a veteran himself. No, revolving the whole service around the “accomplishments of the sanctified” is not good Christian worship practice. Saying a brief prayer of thanks is fine, as would be the case with any vocation we may give thanks for. Having a whole service hijacked for essentially man-centered praise is not. This was my basic point. Thanks for linking…

I read the linked posts, and I am still somewhat undecided on the issue myself. I’m not saying I come down on the issue specifically one way or another, merely that my gut reation was to disagree.

Again, this is an area I have not put much thought into, therefore it is something that I need to study more about to come to a final conclusion.

Hey, no problem. :o) Keep thinking about it– goodness knows that I didn’t reach my conclusion overnight.
