Deuteronomy 22-23

What is the nature of holiness? Any discussion of God’s law necessarily includes a discussion of holiness, and such a discussion is often difficult for sinful humans to understand. The truth is that holiness is perfection. Holiness is the complete and perfect fulfillment of God’s law. Holiness is truly being like God, knowing what is good and what is evil and doing only what is good.

Unfortunately, we cannot hope to keep even one point of the law of God, let alone all of it. We constantly sin, tempted away from God’s holiness by the devil, the world, and our own sinful flesh. For us, the law is condemnation, not holiness. And that is why the Father sent us salvation through Jesus Christ. By faith in Jesus, we are made holy through His sacrifice. We are washed clean through baptism and constantly renewed through communion. By faith, we are held blameless to the law, and through faith, we then live lives sanctified to Christ and His word.
