Deuteronomy 26

How many of us give the first fruits? Sure, many Christians tithe, but how often is that tithe the first of what we have to offer? All too often, the truth for all of us is that we give after the rent has been paid and the groceries have been bought.

Giving the first fruits is a special gift from us to our God. By giving of those first fruits, not only do we thank out God for His blessings, we also remind ourselves that we trust in our God to take care of us.

Indeed, the first fruits are the first step toward seeking first God’s kingdom and His righteousness. When we give first and foremost to God, we actively set aside the things of the world, declaring that we place the best of what we have in God’s hands first.

In doing so, our first fruits, whether they be our time, talents, or our money- and not just our money- serve directly to further the Kingdom, and in that furtherance, all Christians can rejoice, because we know that there is nothing that we have in this life that will compare to what we will have in the next.
