Mark 10:32-52

Blind Bartimaeus was an amazing man. Sitting on the road outside of Jericho and begging because of his disability, he was still able to recognize Jesus and all that he stood for, even while the leaders of Israel continued to deny that Jesus was who He said He was.

Blind Bartimaeus understood by the faith he already had in Jesus Christ as his Savior approached to cry out, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”. Bartimaeus knew who Jesus was, and he knew that Jesus had the power to heal him, both in body and in spirit. The man was so joyful at his meeting with his Savior that he followed along after him.

How many of us wait for the return of Jesus Christ like Bartimaeus waited for him along that road? Are we willing to place ourselves in scrutiny, to expose ourselves to the world’s ridicule for the sake of the Gospel? If not, what is the measure of the faith we say we have? Praise be to God that He gave us the example of blind Bartimaeus, for that man shows us the power of faith, whatever our circumstances in life may be.
